I remember that they do have a service like that for the more populated areas of bali… I know where their office is ( just opposite of the blueline office on the right ) but I can’t remember the company name or website. I’d email/call blueline and see if they offer that sort of service and if they don’t just ask them what the name of that other company is. If they don’t tell you ask if you can speak to “Gustov” and he will tell you. If you could please post your findings back here for the benefit of others that would be great. Thanks and good luck.

Hi Wes,

I’m planning to stay near Kuta Beach for 1 month. I will need a fast DSL connection but I cannot be paying for a per-megabyte fee.

I like the idea of renting a home for a month and installing the DSL there, would you know how much the cost of installing and using the DSL there for only 30days?

I’m a web developer and internet power user, so you probably know how much I need it =)

Unless something has changed in the last eight months then the ADSL will still be slow and just as expensive as the wireless. Plus there will be a very slim chance that you could set it up within a week’s time.

And if you are staying for just one month you might not even be able to get them to set up a wireless connection unless you give them a decent setup fee. The setup process normally takes about a week.

If you know where you are going to be staying then you can have them set it up ahead of time.

If you are an Internet power user menu should have some extra cash laying around and can pay the five or six dollars per hour to connect at an Internet shop . This is what I did for awhile the first time I was there two years ago. There are lots of cool Internet shops however my favorite one was global extreme. http://www.globalxtreme.net/

If something has changed with the ADSL service there please post another comment giving us the lowdown.

Good luck and enjoy Bali.

There was a company just opposite of the blue line office providing GP RS Internet; it was an unlimited connection however the connection was comparable to a 56k modem connection. If you have a GP RS phone then you won’t have to buy the $250 GP RS modem.

Thanks for the lowdown Wes. Wow internet there is expensive huh. How about Cafe’s or Restaurants with free wi-fi?

The only way internet comes in is via sattelite so all the prices are marked up from the wholesale sat rate.

Some places have free wifi. Never tried connecting there though. The global extreme company and blueline sell voucher cards that you can use to connect with at hip places like Bali Deli, and Ku De Ta and many other hotspots around lower bali. That would probably give you the best mobility and speed ratio.

Just don’t use youtube, and turn off the images when you browse.

report back if you find the time with any suggestions from your experience on the ground.

Hi,

I will go to indonesia after 3 weeks(Java,Bali), and i would like to buy a prepaid sim card to use gprs internet on my laptop via my mobile phone, or some wireless internet. I will stay 1month in Bali. Please write me what you can recommend. I preferred an unlimited data solution.

Rick, Nick, do you guys have any updated information based on your recent experiences with Internet technologies and services in Bali? It has been a year since I have been there so I would appreciate some updated information to share with others.

Nikaszi… unfortunately I don’t have any experience with Java…

Hi Wes,

Thanks your help.
I think the best of me, if I rent a house with internet next to the beach in Bali. Could somebody recommend me this type of house in Bali? Usually how much the rental/month?

Thanks

I was paying about $125 per month for a small two bedroom house in a small Indonesian village. About 20 minutes from the beach, no air-conditioning, no luxuries.

You probably could not rent one of these places out just for one month anyways. They usually want six months or one year.

Because of your limited time I recommend that you just find an inexpensive hotel and then do your work from a quality Internet shop. While you are there you can do some research for your next trip.

Good luck and enjoy.
