god we should talk more… chris and i have this on going communication that mostly revolves around music in a competitive way, like who is the first to find it… must admit you were a little ahead of us on the whole daft punk thing, i heard them plenty at the clubs in belgium, just didnt know it was daft punk. chris just one upped me and came out with the mt st helens band… so this week i have to find something cool that he never heard of.
Recommending music rarely works for me… nobody ever takes my recommendations primarily because my recommendations revolve around music that I like. Everyone likes different music and everyone is also a little bit competitive about it… people want to discover their own stuff. I also have a low success rate when I listen to the music that has been recommended to me. In order to make a recommendation you really need to know what music they already like and also have experience with that same music.
There also seems to be a popularity backlash that occurs when something gets popular among the people who you do not want to associate with. If those people start to like the music you like you will likely abandon that music in search of something more unique.
