Had two big issues with the new skype version 4.1 so I searched for “downgrade skype” for some tips… there were none.
Then I tried “download older versions of skype” where I found this site that has older versions of skype for download. Downloading version 3.8 now.
I started to uninstall the new version of skype which I don’t like from the control panel and it said that I would lose my chat history so I searched for tips on that “downgrade skype without loosing your chat history” which gave me no help.
I then decided I could live with losing the chat history and uninstalled anyway.
The new skype was:
- Too large.. before it was skinny and tall, now it is wide like a browser.
- Too different… not easy for me to do the stuff I already knew how to do.
- A little bit ugly.
- Causing some miscellaneous problems with my voice recognition.

I tried installing the even older and smaller Skype 2.5 on my xp machine ( service pack two ) …. no luck, it would not let me get signed in. Going back up to 3.8.
From the moment I pick up a Skype call, my CPU gets up to 100% and my pc is as good as unusable till I disconnect the call.
I found an old version here: http://www.oldapps.com/skype.php?old_skype=76
Suddenly they ceased supporting good old tiny 2.5 version… Well, I ceased using skype at all and switched to Google talk on my PC and fring on my mobile. And many many of my contacts will definitely be persuaded to stop using that hulking RAM eater.
P.S. I have 2.5 GB of RAM, but still cannot put up with the fact that IM uses 50 MB just for sheer texting.
Shame on skype
new skype 5.0 sucks BIG time, especially with that Facebook-f***g-integration. I downgraded to v 3.5 for WinXP as I like to have a chat client not a "browser" and not with Facebook integrated in it…. I hate Facebook, I use Skype for work to communicate with my colleagues and with my boss, so….
Skype 2.0 for Linux still works in Linux and it is much more clean and simple, and I use that version too, when switching to Linux.
Merci beaucoup, car Skype 5 is not good for me
