I still think FaceBook should get into the virtual wallet financial territory… everybody trusts them with everything already… why not trust them with your finances and make it super easy to buy stuff everywhere on the Internet. No filling out shipping information, no filling out credit card information, no filling out your name, no filling out the people you’re traveling with, no filling out anything.

If you’re logged in the FaceBook it means you can check out, reserve, and purchase whatever product or service or ticket or whatever you’re buying with just a couple clicks.

PayPal is already doing this for 81 million people worldwide however the adoption of their simplified checkout is not nearly as high so you run into the chicken and the egg problem.

They should partner with FaceBook to make it all happen. Or Google should do it with their Google account and android base.

http://www.addcolours.com/blog/coding/javascript-jquery-coding/jquery-touch-optimized-framework-for-iphone-ipad-android.html

This seems to help make mobile sites using jquery mobile… not what I want but interesting… then I found http://brandmini.com/ which appears to be a company/technology/service that helps you sell your products more easily on mobiles and social networks… also not what I wanted.

then I googled for “ipad optimized checkout”… and discovered that PayPal has a mobile optimized express checkout option… this could be what I’m looking for.

In Google ad words you can add “negative keywords” to you or campaigns… I’ve been experimenting with FaceBook advertising recently and wanted to show advertisements to everyone in the United States except certain people within a certain ZIP code… so I started googling for terms like :

facebook ad prevent showing to certain demographics
facebook ad prevent
facebook ad targeting negative zip codes
facebook ad negative demographics

I was not able to find any good content about it and I could not find a way to do it within FaceBook so we set it up using a roundabout way within FaceBook.

We set up the campaign to run in every state but our own state then we set up another campaign and set up all of the major cities within the state. This is as close as we could come to what we wanted.

If you have a better suggestion I’d love to hear it.

Now that I have my affiliate links to Dreamhost automatically hyperlinked everywhere I am feeling like maybe I should get more serious about other ways to make some cash off my blog… passive income is the name of the game. Don’t let me get away with cliché sayings like that… this income is not passive if I’m working on it actively right?

So I just googled for “best Google adsense WordPress plug-in for performance” hoping to find a flexible WordPress AdSense plug-in that might do more than just show the ads… how was hoping it might do some split testing or automatic optimization of itself… try new colors, try new positions, that kind of thing. Well I haven’t found anything quite that sophisticated yet so I decided to try out this one first… it’s called “Komoona AdSense Companion”…. after installing that one I discovered that one must go through the additional effort of generating your adsense code first. I was hoping to find a plug-in that handle that for you and would allow you to change the format on-the-fly. Yes I am demanding! So I googled for “WordPress adsense plug-in that automatically selects the best size” hoping to find some new plug-ins… I eventually found a WordPress adsense plug-in that only requires you to enter your adsense ID, choose a size by checking some boxes, decide on the number of advertisements to show per page and per post, decide on advertisement positioning, and some other options visible below in this screenshot:

It has been on my remember the milk to do list for a couple months now to convert any mentions of Dreamhost occurring on my WordPress blog into a affiliate link… they actually offer $97 for every customer you send them. I was figuring it would take no more than an hour to search and replace all of the different occurrences of the phrase “Dreamhost” but was pretty sure I could find a way to do it faster using some sort of plug-in. I have no idea how much money this small time investment might make me over the next 10 years but I find it interesting that there is this potentially large opportunity to make money that I have not yet taken advantage of. Anyway I found a quick way to do it on this website … the writer actually provides a premium plug-in, a free plug-in, and then a manual way to drop it into your functions.php file. The problem with putting it into the functions.php file is that in the future if you change your WordPress theme you’ll also have to transition this code into the other functions.php file.

Here is a screenshot of the premium WordPress plug-in that handles the smart linking for search engine optimization:

Here is the code you need to add to your functions.php file located in your current theme folder. Note that some teens do not have a functions.php file so you need to create the file. Note that the keyword text is case-sensitive.

function replace_text_wps($text){
	$replace = array(
 // 'WORD TO REPLACE' => 'REPLACE WORD WITH THIS- case sensitive!'
 'Dreamhost' => '<a target="_blank" href="http://www.Dreamhost.com/r.cgi?170973">Dreamhost',

	return $text;
}
add_filter('the_content', 'replace_text_wps');
add_filter('the_excerpt', 'replace_text_wps');

Was looking for an android app that collects items collected to your android clipboard and allows you to re-paste them at a later time. I also wanted the items to be available on other Android devices so that meant it had to be a cloud type tool… here is my progress:

Cloud Copy Paste: – This was a no go for me cause the clipboard items are stored publicly on their site.

Clipboard: - Had bad reviews.

ClipBird – Not compatible with my devices but claims to sync last 10 items ( weak ) with phone and pc.

Clipboard Contents – Claims to backup to google backup cloud somehow… but no options related to that in the options. hmm. Also could use some sort of organizational tools for the clips.

EverCopy – Copies the selected text from your Evernote account. I like the idea of this cause you can password protect your evernote clips. And organize them.

Dropbox – I’d like it if there were a simple way to do this via dropbox… a search for dropbox android clipboard didn’t turn up much.

TelePaste – Looks like it has the cloud function… not sure about privacy. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.telepaste&feature=search_result

Apache needs write permissions to the folders so set permissions to 775 recursivly on your blog’s root folder. These permissions must be applied to your user and there was something else that he did relating to a “group”.

The tech also installed/enabled some kind of copression to get the “upload images” functionality of wordpress working on verio.

After the tech handled that the following problems dissapeared:

Not able to upgrade automatically from within wordpress.

Not being able to install new plugins from within the wordpress control panel.

Not being able to upload images within wordpress.

Note before you “Upgrade Automatically” from within wordpress it’s recommended that you backup your database and files. This sounds like no fun when you have one blog and is torture if you have 10 wordpress installations to upgrade. To make life easier I utilize the following solutions:

On verio I use a plugin named wp-Time Machine that lets you backup your entire wordpress blog and db to your dropbox, amazon s3 account or some other host via ftp. The amazon s3 option works good for me ( except on one of my blogs that has heaps of images from over several years of blogging ). Link: http://wptimemachine.com/

With my wordpress installs on Dreamhost I don’t need to worry about upgrading because Dreamhost handles this automatically. Normally they will email you a few days after wordpress releases an update letting you know that your blog has been upgraded to the latest version. You can turn this off if you like.

Previously I was using a program called TNTDrive to mount my Amazon S3 bucket as a local drive however recently I have been having some of the problems with my computer that caused TNTDrive to stop working. The support personnel were more than helpful in trying to figure out why I was having problems and I still totally recommend their product because of its small memory footprint and download size and simplicity. That being said I needed a solution so I finally set the time aside to find a alternative. First of all my needs are quite simple… I just want to have a simple way to upload my stylesheets to Amazon S3 where they can be referenced from webpages that I designed/developed.

So I was googling for all sorts of things like “amazon s3 autosync, Amazon S3 mount as drive, Amazon S3 synchronization” and I was finding all sorts of commercial applications such as Gladinet and GoodSync… then finally I found something free and super simple from a Canadian outfit named SprightlySoft located in Toronto.

Their solution is a commandline tool that consists of just three files. The .exe file, a configuration file, and a DLL file. After you enter in your Amazon S3 bucket details, credentials, and local path to the folder you want to synchronize you just double-click on the .exe file to upload or download your files.

I was happy because I got everything working inside of five minutes and then I even set up a voice-recognition macro to trigger the automatic upload/synchronization whenever I say “synchronize Amazon”. So here is the link to sprightly soft where you can download the small application which is just over 200kb. Command line amazon s3 auto upload sync tool.
